Obstetrical Ultrasounds

We understand that this is a special time for you and your baby, and that’s why we prioritize personalized care that puts you both first.

Our team of experienced healthcare professionals are dedicated to making your pregnancy journey as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Preparation is to 4-6 glasses of water to be finished one hour before exam time. Early OB includes up to 14-week gestation. The exam is used to:

  • establish the presence of a living embryo/fetus
  • estimate the age of the pregnancy by measuring the embryo/fetus
  • evaluate the position of the fetus
  • determine if there are multiple pregnancies
  • assess the ovaries and tubes

Preparation requires drinking 4-6 glasses of water, to be finished one hour before the appointment time. The NT scan measures the fluid at the back of a baby’s neck when the fetal crown-rump length (CRL) is between 45mm and 84mm (approximately 11 ̶ 14 weeks gestation). The ultrasound itself will take about 20 minutes to perform. During the scan, the technologist will:

  • Confirms the dates and measurements of your pregnancy
  • It detects pregnancies with more than one baby and determines whether the babies have the same placenta or not
  • It provides an initial assessment of the anatomy that is visible, as some birth defects can be detected at this stage
  • Given that many problems cannot be detected at this stage, an ultrasound at 18-20 weeks is recommended and can be arranged by your health care provider
*Please note: The nuchal translucency ultrasound must be done first, before the blood test. The blood test can be performed after the ultrasound within the 11-14 week range.

Done between 18-20 weeks gestation. Prepare by drinking 2-3 glasses of water, to be finished one hour before appointment time. The exam will take approximately 40-60 minutes. This includes:

  • full anatomical survey of fetus
  • measurement of fetal size according to age
  • position of baby
  • diagnose certain congenital abnormalities
  • evaluate the position of the placenta and its cord insertion
  • determine the amount of amniotic fluid
  • check for opening or shortening of the cervix

Done after 28 weeks of pregnancy. No preparation required. The ultrasound will last approximately 30 minutes. In the exam, the tech will:

  • Assess fetal growth
  • Assess fetal wellbeing (including movements, muscle tone, breathing, and fluid level)
  • Measure amniotic fluid
  • Confirm placental location
  • Position of baby

Common indications for a BPP:

  • decrease in the fetus’s movements
  • Previous stillbirth or other negative pregnancy outcomes
  • Expecting multiples
  • Pregnancy-related hypertension (high blood pressure) or preeclampsia
  • Possible intrauterine growth restriction
  • Diabetes
  • Increased or decreased amniotic fluid
  • You’re Rh negative
  • You’re 35 or older at the time of delivery
  • You have obesity (a body mass index, or BMI, of 30 or higher)
  • Or other

  • pelvic pain
  • irregular periods
